So, incentives breed cheating; who knew?

The school superintendent in Atlanta received almost half a million dollars in incentive money – over and above her salary and benefit package –  for the increases in test scores of her district’s students. Unfortunately, a number of school administrators, teachers, & school staff have been indicted on charges of cheating on standardized testing. And these kinds of behaviors were going on for approximately 10 years!

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan should look very carefully at how the billions of dollars in Race to the Top incentive money is being used. Atlanta is not an isolated case.
